Pre-Foundation Year English (PFYE) is the perfect program for students wanting to build confidence and improve their academic English level in preparation for a successful Foundation Year and University experience.
The 15-week program is designed to teach students to use English confidently and effectively in a Globalised world context, including:
- Academic essay writing;
- Describing graphs and charts;
- Analysing and discussing key issues;
- Listening and note taking;
- Summarising journal articles.

The English Entry Requirements for PFYE is an equivalency of IELTS 4 with no band score less than 3.5.

|Do PFYE students need to sit for an external English test to progress to the EPP and the IES Foundation Year?||No. Our Academic staff conduct progress checks during the PFYE to ensure students are receiving all the extra support required.|
|Is there any special academic assistance students can get while studying the PFYE?||Yes. In addition to small classes conducted by expert ESL Academics, IES also provides extra academic tutorials with qualified IES Tutors if required.|
|Can PFYE students get assistance from the IES Mates?||IES Mates are local University of Queensland students providing PFYE students with regular, informal conversational English to boost their confidence and listening and speaking skills|
|Do PFYE students receive the same level of care and welfare as do other IES College students?||Yes. The IES Student Services team offer the same high level of care to PFYE students including: accommodation assistance; personal and academic counselling; site visits to the University of Queensland; workshops to help students live and learn with confidence in their new home|
